Welcome to the Penn Bentgrass Varieties
Professor Burton Musser developed Penncross in 1955, but thanks especially to the continuing efforts of Dr. Joe Duich, Professor Emeritus, Penn State University, and Crystal-Rose Fricker, president of Pure-Seed Testing, Inc., the Penn bent grass family has developed the most trusted bentgrasses in the industry, offering several varieties of bent grass.

Penn A-1 Creeping Bentgrass has a very dark green coloration, fine leaf texture, tremendous heat and cold tolerance, very high density and superior disease resistance. This bent grass variety has very good winter color and spring green-up. It provides a superb putting surface and will provide an excellent playing surface on tees and fairways, too.

Penn A-2 Creeping Bentgrass has dark green coloration, excellent heat and cold tolerance, disease resistance and wear resistance. This Penn A-2 bent grass variety has a very fine leaf texture and vertical growth habit, thereby providing an excellent putting surface. Works well in converting existing greens to a high-quality surface.

Penn A-4 Creeping Bentgrass is dark green with fine leaf texture, exceptional heat and cold tolerance, high density, disease resistant and aggressive growth habit. This bent grass variety provides a smooth grainless putting surface. Penn A-4 will also provide a good playing surface for tees and fairways. It is proven to be adaptable to various conditions.
