Tee-2-Green’s Pure Distinction Bentgrass Chosen for the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy

Tee-2-Green, the leading supplier of bentgrass seed for the golfing industry confirmed today that its Pure Distinction bentgrass was chosen by European Golf Design and the European Tour for the greens renovation at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy, for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Marco Simone, located in Guidonia, northeast of Rome, executed a complete redesign in preparation for the Ryder Cup. Opened in 1989 and designed originally by Jim Fazio, the golf course required a transformation to prepare to host the world’s largest golf competition. Lead architect Dave Sampson of European Golf Design was selected to spearhead the redesign. As we will see in September, he has chosen the turfgrass varieties best suited for delivering playability on par with the legendary golf challenge. Learn more about Marco Simone, the renovation process, and what made these turfgrasses worthy of the most-watched golf event in the world in Golf Course Architecture’s Ryder Cup feature.

Tee-2-Green’s Pure Distinction bentgrass, developed at Pure Seed Testing, is one of the latest advanced bentgrasses. Uniquely bright-green colored, Pure Distinction bentgrass takes the superb attributes of previous bents—dense, upright, aggressive growth, less thatch, and easy maintenance—to the next level. It’s the ultimate bentgrass for smooth and true putting greens. Pure Distinction also has exceptionally strong resistance to diseases and outstanding resistance to heat, cold, and wear. The bentgrass is used on some of the world’s most illustrious golf courses, including The Los Angeles Country Club, where the US Open was held in June.

“We are honored that Marco Simone Golf & Country Club has chosen our Pure Distinction bentgrass for its renovation, and we appreciate Tempoverde Srl for assisting us in making this happen,” said Terry Plagmann, President of Tee-2-Green. “We are confident that our grass will provide the players with the best possible playing surface.

The 2023 Ryder Cup is expected to attract over 500,000 spectators. The event is considered one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.
